FAQ

Questions

The things people ask first. Anything else, call or text 760-546-9405.

Food and drink

Can we have alcohol?

Yes, in one of two ways. El Privado has no liquor license and never sells or serves alcohol. Either you bring it and serve it free to your guests — no cash bar, no drink tickets, no charge per drink — or you hire a licensed caterer or bartending service that serves under its own ABC license and catering authorization, with its own liquor liability insurance.

Who does the food?

A licensed caterer. El Privado isn’t a restaurant and doesn’t cater. With any booking that includes the big room, your caterer can use the kitchen at the back: Type 1 hood, double-stack convection oven, reach-in refrigeration and a microwave.

Can we bring our own caterer?

Ask us when you book — tell us who you have in mind and we’ll confirm.

Is the kitchen available with the patio?

No. The kitchen is reached through the big room, so it comes only with bookings that include it.

The room

How many people fit?

Up to 150 seated in the big room — that’s our chair count. About 50 seated on the patio alone. Over 150, ask us for a custom quote.

Can we visit first?

Yes. Tours run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 6 pm, and Thursday at noon. They take 45 minutes. Book one on the contact page.

What’s included?

Depends on the package: the whole venue with Privado and Reserva, or the patio and front room with Patio. Tables, gold Chiavari chairs and the sound system are already in the room. Every inclusion is listed with the price.

Can we decorate?

Yes, within your hours. We’ll go through what can go where on your tour.

Can we play music? Is there a DJ setup?

Yes. The big room has JBL speakers, an amplifier, a mixer and Bluetooth in, and the patio has its own speakers. DJs are welcome. Music ends with the event — the building is clear by 11 pm.

Hours and getting here

What are the hours?

Friday to Sunday is a full day: 8 hours of use between 10 am and 11 pm. Monday to Thursday is a daytime or an evening block. Privado adds 2 hours of early setup; Reserva gives you 24 hours. The building is clear by 11 pm.

Can we stay later?

Extra hours are $300 each, arranged in advance. The 11 pm hard out still applies.

How do setup and load-in work?

At street level from Grand Ave. Caterers use the kitchen-side door. With Reserva, set up the evening before and pick up the next morning.

Where do guests park?

Downtown Escondido, on Grand Ave. We’ll send exact parking directions with your booking.

Is the venue accessible?

Ask us about access for any guest and we’ll walk you through it.

Booking and paying

How does the deposit work?

50% of the total holds your date, by card. The balance is due 7 days before the event, by card or bank transfer. When you accept a quote, the date is held for 48 hours while you pay.

What if we cancel?

Our cancellation terms are being finalized. You’ll have them in writing before you pay anything.

Are there any other fees?

No. The price you see includes everything mandatory: no cleaning fee, no service fee, no card surcharge. The only other money is the refundable security deposit, held as a card on file.

What insurance do we need?

A certificate of insurance, 14 days before the event: $1M per occurrence and $2M aggregate, naming El Privado and the building owner as additional insured. If alcohol is served, it must include liquor liability.

Can we hold a public or ticketed event?

Ask us first, every time. Public events carry more liability and may need city permits.
